Body doubling online, without a camera

Body doubling means doing a task while someone else is there, working on their own thing. The other person doesn’t help with your work; their presence is what makes it easier to start and keep going. You can do it online, and you don’t need a webcam: in Study Grove’s free shared study rooms your character sits at a desk beside other people who are studying, and nobody sees or hears you.

What body doubling is

The idea is simple: work next to another person, in the same room or online. Cleveland Clinic describes body doubling as a way to stay focused and motivated, and many people, including many with ADHD, say it helps them get going. Understood notes that research on it is still limited. It is a working habit, not a treatment.

How to body double in Study Grove

  1. 1

Shared rooms admit signed-in players. The account is free.

  2. 2

    Choose a room

Pick the two-floor café, a silent study hall with chat switched off, a Pomodoro hall, a lounge or a small cottage room. Nothing joins you automatically.

  3. 3

Sit down and start your timer

Take a free desk and start your own focus session. Others see your character and your Focused or Paused tag.

  4. 4

    Work until the timer ends

Each completed focus minute earns 2 XP and 1 coin, the same as studying alone. Your timer belongs to you, not to the room.
