A practical explanation of what this version of Study Grove stores. Updated October 14, 2026.

Stored in your browser

Your progress, character, pet, preferences and focus history are stored locally in your browser. The game can also remember whether you prefer reduced motion. This landing page remembers your motion preference. Browser storage is used for these features, rather than advertising or tracking.

Accounts and cloud sync

If you create an account, the server stores your account identifier, username, account information, saved game progress and sessions. Password accounts use salted password hashes. Google sign-in uses Google’s verified identity identifier; Google’s own sign-in service is subject to its privacy policy. Discord sign-in asks only for the identify permission: the server keeps your Discord user ID and display name, never your email, servers or messages, and does not store Discord access tokens. Discord’s sign-in is subject to Discord’s privacy policy. Cloud sync sends your saved progress to the Study Grove server.

Necessary cookies and multiplayer

Sign-in uses necessary session cookies and a short-lived Google or Discord sign-in challenge. Google and Discord sessions can last up to 30 days. Multiplayer sends your character name, appearance, position and study presence to other players in your room. Choose a display name you are comfortable sharing.

Hosting and security logs

The service is hosted on Google Cloud. Infrastructure and security services may process technical information such as connection addresses, timestamps and administrative access events. The landing page does not include advertising or analytics trackers, and its fonts, scripts and images are hosted on this site.

Backups and retention

Account and cloud-save records remain on the server until removed by an administrator. Deployment backups retain the newest five copies of the game database. Account deletion and retention controls are not currently available in the game interface.

The Timer Pet browser extension

The optional Study Grove Timer Pet extension stores its settings (pet choice, size, position, nap delay, quiet motion and where the pet is shown) and a small copy of your current timer in your browser’s extension storage. The timer copy holds your pet’s name and look, the session’s title, status, length and time left, and the address of the paired game tab. It never receives your full save, notes, flashcards, study history, coin history, passwords or sign-in details.

The extension doesn’t send anything to a server, has no ads or analytics, and doesn’t sell or share data. It reads tab addresses only to find your Study Grove game tab, and keeps that one tab, not a browsing history. On other websites it draws the pet and listens only for taps on the pet and its timer card, the Escape key, and clicks elsewhere that close the card; it doesn’t read page content or what you type. Website access beyond Study Grove is optional and asked for by your browser. Removing the extension deletes its stored settings. The Timer Pet guide lists every permission and what it is for.

Your local controls

Use Settings & backup in the game to export your local progress. Clearing this site’s browser data removes local records and preferences, but does not delete cloud accounts or cloud backups. Sign out to end your current session. Avoid placing sensitive personal information in tasks, notes or your display name.
